Weithin ragt der
Riese finster
am Horizont empor
Er ist des Feuers Tor
Wächter der Unterwelt
der beisammen hält
was im innern
schlummert
glühende Gewalt
in fließender Gestalt
Still –
Er donnert und er grollt
Es lässt ein schreckliches Zittern
die Erde erschüttern
Grausig verkündet das Beben
Der Vulkan ist wird sich erheben
Brüllend
lässt er Asche regnen
seiner Macht solln sie begegnen
In heißer Wut
spuckt er
die glühende Flut
Ergießt der Unterwelten Licht
auf der Erde Gesicht
Unter ihm erbebt
alles, das lebt
Was er sagen will, ist klar:
Kommt dem Feuer
nicht zu nah.

Far from the horizon
the giant protudes darkly
he is the fire´s gate
guardian of the underworld
who keeps together
what slumbers inside
glowing force
in fluent shape
– quiet ! –
he rumbles and he growls
a terrible shiver
shatters the earth
gruesome the quake heralds
the volcano is about to rise
roaring he makes ashes rain
his power they should face
in rage he spits the glowing flood
Outpours the underwold´s light
onto the earth´s face
beneath him shivers
everything that is alive
It is clear what he wants to say:
Do not get too close
to the fire.
